“Who wants to tell ghost stories!”

“Who wants to tell ghost stories!”

“Who wants to tell ghost stories!” shouted Conner, as the six of us started out on our evening walk into the wilderness.

I elbowed Julie, who got my drift and volunteered. “Exactly ten years ago today, on a cold Thanksgiving night just like tonight, the Allegheny Massacre shocked and terrified the entire town of Warren like nothing before it - or since…”

As she got into the wind-up, I let myself lag a few more and more steps behind the group until I was sure I was far enough behind that they could no longer see or hear me. I trailed them like that for a good few minutes, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t scare myself nearly half to death thinking about bear attacks and Thanksgiving zombies and the like.

By the time they decided to turn around and head back to the cabin, I could tell Julie’s tale of horror in the woods had their hearts racing. I made my move. I ran toward them from the darkness, and made a Really Scary Noise™ with the back of my throat. I tackled Conner and Alex, and everyone screamed, and then Conner tried to kill me but I fended him off, and we lived happily ever after. The end.
