My wife thought she would hate any kind of reading experience that didn't involve holding a pulpy mass of words literally in her hands. She thought she would hate a Kindle like she hates iPhones and the Internet. She thought she would look with scorn upon this monstrous abomination to everything great and old about literature. But I'll tell you something if you come closer. Close enough that I can whisper, because I don't want her to hear it. A little closer.
